No district prohibition found in current research. No Southern Nevada sanitation prohibition comparable to LACSD Measure S turned up for this file. HOAs and specific districts can still write rules. Ask the agency on the sewer bill.
Hardness (as published)
Current LVVWD Water Quality Report tells customers to set a softener at 280 ppm / 16 grains per gallon. Some FAQ pages have also printed 291 ppm / 17 gpg. Use the report you open, then test the tap. — Las Vegas Valley Water District Water Quality Report (current PDF); LVVWD water quality FAQs
Disinfectant (as published)
Chlorine added as water leaves SNWA treatment plants (ozone + filtration + chlorination). Groundwater: chlorine as it enters distribution. Free chlorine residual on the report (example: avg about 0.99–1.0 ppm). — LVVWD Water Quality Report; LVVWD testing and treatment page

Salt-based softener: two mineral tanks and a brine tank.
A salt-based softener is the thing that actually removes hardness. Size it from your grains and how much water you use, not bathroom count. It needs a drain.
If you are shopping a PFAS listing for the kitchen
Under-sink reverse osmosis: filters, tank, and a second faucet.
A pitcher or under-sink RO whose exact model is listed for PFAS under NSF/ANSI 53 or 58. The RO shop link is Waterdrop. Pitchers stay on a tagged Amazon search. We have not picked a model.
Las Vegas is a very hard, chlorine file. Colorado River minerals, not a well-iron story for LVVWD city water.
What LVVWD publishes
The current Water Quality Report tells people with a softener to set 280 ppm / 16 gpg. Older FAQ copy has said 291 ppm / 17 gpg. Both are “very hard.” Pick the number on the PDF you are holding and confirm at the tap.
Lake Mead water is ozonated, filtered, and chlorinated. Groundwater is chlorinated as it enters the system. Vendor pages that say “the Valley uses chloramine” need a citation that is not this district’s sentence.
