EPA’s lead and copper rule uses a 15 ppb action level at the 90th percentile of tap samples, not a finished-water MCL printed the way nitrate is. That number is plumbing-side as often as it is a plant number.
Typical sources
Lead service lines, solder, and fixtures. A CCR 90th-percentile row is not the same as a grains chart.

Shopping language is narrower: the exact model listed for lead reduction under NSF/ANSI 53 or 58. A generic “NSF” badge or a chlorine-only 42 carbon tank is not that listing.
